Beyond the Lens: A Few of My Favorite Things
When I don’t have a camera in my hand or a newborn in my arms, you can usually find me leaning into my "English roots" with a huge mug of strong tea—I usually have one on the go during my sessions, too!
Here is a little peek into my life outside the studio:
Gin O’Clock & Red Wine: I’m a bit of a red wine lover and a gin aficionado. My friends and followers know that when I post "It’s Gin O’Clock" on a Friday, the weekend has officially begun!
The Great Outdoors: I’ve been a competitive sailor for 30 years, racing keel boats around the Superior North Shore. I even have a division win in the BVIs under my belt! When we aren't sailing, my husband Alan and I are out on the lake learning to paddleboard.
The Renovation Adventure: We recently took a leap of faith, sold our home in Port Arthur, and bought an old family Lakehouse on Lake Superior. We are currently knee-deep in a massive renovation adventure—you can follow the mayhem over at @we_bought_a_lakehouse.
DIY & Gardening: I’m not afraid of a power tool! I’ve gutted and installed kitchens and bathrooms myself, and I love designing large-scale gardens.
My Fur Babies: We have two Westies, Daisy and her puppy Poppy (a Westie-Poo). They are my constant muses—Daisy even has her own Instagram: @daisymaywestie.
The Potterhead Life: I am a massive Harry Potter fan. I read every book to my daughters with full character voices. We’re such fans that we even have matching Deathly Hallows tattoos! IYKYK!
My Partner in Everything: My husband, Alan, is my biggest cheerleader. He’s a filmmaker, drone pilot, and IT Director. We’ve worked together for years, and you’ll still find me assisting him as a second shooter on his corporate film projects.
Let’s Create Something Timeless Together
My journey from the ICU to my fourth studio has taught me one thing: life’s biggest moments deserve to be captured with intention.
Whether I’m racing across Lake Superior, renovating our lakehouse, or carefully swaddling a five-day-old newborn, I am driven by the stories we leave behind. I’m not just here to take a photo; I’m here to help you preserve a legacy your family will hold in their hands for decades.
I’ll bring the tea and 25 years of experience—you bring your story. Together, we’ll make sure these fleeting details are never forgotten.
I can’t wait to welcome you into the studio.
I started my photography business when my daughters were little, and I was a newly single parent. I had a passion for photography since my childhood, though I was guided into my first career as a nurse. Photography remained a hobby for me and I took MANY courses and workshops between nursing exams and promotions. After 11 years, during which I worked my way up to become an ICU head nurse we emergrated to Canada and I was given the opportunity to start my photography business and I've not looked back!
Photography styles have changed over the years and I changed right along with them, but today
I find myself going back to my roots with a more relaxed and natural style, especially with newborns and babies. They say "what goes around, comes around!" and that couldn't be more true with my work!
I started as a "documenary" (lifestyle) photographer, and as my life circumstances chaged so did my photography style!
25 years later, opening a brand new and purpose built studio space (my fourth studio!) has allowed me to revamp what I offer my clients and only provide them with the services and products I truly love!
Photographying babies has always been "a given" for me, but I developed a real passion for photographing women. Be they expectant mothers celebrating their beautiful bumps, boudoir \ clients looking for intimate images that empower and conect them to their inner Diva, or business women looking for great head-shots to represent them in their working world.
Every woman deserves gorgeous images of herself, especially at the most significant times of her life. Be that marriage, pregnancy, significant weight loss, divorce, or recovery from illness... there's so much in life to celebrate!
A few things about me when
I'm not photographing...
I'm a tea drinker, I drink around 4-5 HUGE mugs of strong tea a day, and usually have a cup on the go during a session! Blame it on my English roots!
I'm also a bit of a Winno (red) and a Gin officianado. Friends and FB followers will often see me post "It's Gin O'Clock" on Fridays and know exactly what thats all about!
I'm a keen gardener and DIY-er. From gutting and installing kitchens & bathrooms, to designing & planting a number of large gardens over the years in the various houses I've lived in. I love the hands-on creativity!
We have 2 fur babies: A Westie named Daisy and her puppy (home grown) Poppy, a Westie-Poo! They are my muses and I've been known to make them the subjects of the occasional fantacy image, especially around halloween. Of course Daisy has her own Instagram account @daisymaywestie
I'm a competative sailor, who for the best part of 30 years have raced a variety of keel boats 2-4 times a week during the summer season in and around the Superior North Shore. We've also participated in a regatta in the BVI's and won our division! Yey! Check out sailing photography on FB @ThunderBaySailing
Living on the Lake we're now learning to paddleboard.
I'm a HUGE Harry Potter fan, having read each book (as it was launched) to my daughters, character voices and all! They in turn have developed into HP officianado's. For my birthday a few years ago we all got a tattoo of The Deathly Hallows... if you know, you know! Check out my Potterhead Gallery in the portfolio.
I ADORE my hubby Alan. He is my partner in every sense of the word, and my biggest cheerleader. In his own right Alan is a film maker, TBay's foremost Drone Pilot and IT Director of a school board. We work together on weddings (@imaginephotocinema), and I assist him as second shooter on corporate shots (@imaginefilms).
In 2021 we took a leap-of-faith and sold our 9 year old home in Port Arthur and bought an old family Lakehouse, moved to Lake Superior and started the renovation adventure. Follow along the mayhem on our Instagram account @we_bought_a_lakehouse
From the ICU to the Studio: A 25-Year Journey
My path to photography wasn't a straight line. I spent 11 years as a nurse, eventually working my way up to Head Nurse in the ICU. While my days were spent in the fast-paced world of medicine, my heart always carried a camera. I spent years balancing nursing exams and promotions with workshops and darkrooms, constantly refining my craft.
Twenty-five years ago, as a newly single mother to two young daughters, I was given the chance to turn my passion into my profession. I haven't looked back since.
Returning to My Roots
Photography trends come and go, and over the decades, I’ve explored them all. But today, I find myself returning to where I started: a relaxed, natural, and timeless style. Opening my fourth studio—a beautiful, purpose-built space—has allowed me to simplify. I’ve stripped away the clutter to focus solely on the products and services I truly love.
Celebrating the Strength of Women
While babies are a natural joy to photograph, my time in nursing and motherhood gave me a deep passion for photographing women. I believe every woman deserves to be seen and celebrated during life’s most significant transitions—whether that is the glow of pregnancy, the empowerment of a boudoir session, or the confidence of a professional headshot.
From marriage and motherhood to recovery and new beginnings, there is so much in life to celebrate. I am here to ensure that when you look at your portraits, you don't just see a picture—you see your strength, your beauty, and your story.
